Exporting/printing retaining hyperlinks

Post by skribla »

I'm evaluating Maple. I find the hyperlinks feature, to local file system files or to the web interesting.

Can you tell me which export format retains the links and they actually work when clicked? I'm a bit disappointed that, for example, a PDF created from a Maple document shows the hyperlinks (in blue) but when the mouse is hovered over the blue links, I cannot actually 'fire-up' the links.

I use PDFs a lot, and have not seen this issue before with other document creation programs to PDF output.

Thanks.

Website links should have an http:// prefix in order to be opened correctly. Links to external files are not yet supported in pdf, but work in other formats (docx, or rtf).

Thanks for the response. A few supplementary questions then please:

1) Do you have a time-line for making links work in PDF exports from Maple? Surely there cannot be significant technical issues as this is very normal behaviour.

2) How about if the process is considered in reverse? If I start work on a document (in, say, rtf or docx format) in an external word processor, and that document has
a) Hyperlinks to local files stored in a Windows drive/folder structure
b) Hyperlinks to web pages

if that external document is Imported into Maple, does Maple understand those hyperlinks? Can I make edits in Maple and then export that document and continue working externally on it, confident that the import-edit-export-edit-reimport flow will always retain hyperlinks a) and b) above?

What rules would have to be applied when creating those hyperlinks to keep them alive through this process flow?

Many thanks.

There are no special rules required. Maple keeps all documents as rtf. So, if you create a document in, say MS Word, you can save it as docx or rtf and then import into Maple. All rtf links will be preserved. And, you can copy/paste the document from Word directly into Maple.
